What Our Training Involves

Our online course and the training manual are used to train safeguarding staff, well-being officers and counsellors in secondary schools and colleges on young partner abuse and young victims of sexual assault. The information provided has been approved by professionals in the domestic abuse field, including Women's Aid, mental health NHS workers, and counsellors.

The content is based on personal experiences of victims and extensive research and provides advise on how to approach a victim who has been affected by common forms of abuse, as well as bring to your attention issues that affect minority youth relationships, such as same-sex relationships, transgender victims, young parents, those from faith backgrounds and more.

Introductory Online Course

The online course is an introductory, mostly video course which should be used alongside the manual.

This will introduce you to the most common forms of abuse that are seen in young relationships. You will also receive advise you on the appropriate way to approach a victim of young partner abuse and sexual assault.

'YAS To Safe Relationships' is an extensive manual that covers a large range of issues related to young partner abuse. The guide will teach you about the different types of abuse that most commonly affect young people and how to spot the signs. Additionally, it will teach you how to approach an individual if you suspect they are being abused by their partner, as well as how to advise friends of a victim, and much more. The manual will be available for you to use indefinitely, so you will be able to refer back to any section at your own comfort if you need to advise a young person at a later date.

“The Young Abuse Support manual entitled ‘YAS to Safe Relationships' is a comprehensive and holistic support resource by young people, for young people. When incorporated correctly into the work of counsellors and safeguarding leads in schools and other educational settings, it will positively enhance their ability to support young people experiencing abuse. The guide is also one that practitioners can use to ensure that they remove this stigma and support all young survivors in these settings in a positive, sensitive, and safe way.”

We Need Your Support Today!

Young Abuse Support

Inspired by our own experiences, Young Abuse Support (YAS) was established in 2020 with hopes that younger people would not have to go through the same trauma. Since, we have built a team of survivors who work hard to create resources to help protect young people from intimate partner abuse. Here you can learn more about who we are and what we do.
